What's Your Story?

My life is a story with many chapters.  Some chapters are wonderful and I’m happy to share them, others are a little embarrassing, although, I prefer to think of them as my opportunities to learn, so, I sometimes share those with hesitance.
Recently, I decided to rewrite my current chapter.  I’m a mother to a 9 year old daughter (not changing that), business owner (love my work) and a partner to a wonderfully supportive man (why would I change him).  The area of my life that has not been working for me has been in health and fitness.  I have not been living up to the expectations I set for myself.
My goal has been to consistently exercise 5 days a week.  The reality is I exercise 3 sometimes 4 days a week.  The problem has been that I mentally beat myself up for not meeting my personal goal.  I go to the gym and run and lift weights and I feel great.  Sounds okay so far, right?  Except, every couple of weeks I closely examine my body and I decide I look terrible, that I haven’t made enough progress and my clothes would look so much better on me if I just spent more time exercising as planned.  How many of you have done this?  Suddenly, I’m not standing quite as tall, I’m pulling on my fat pants (you know the pair with the elastic waist) and I’m angry.
Now not only am I miserable but, everyone around me is miserable because I’m turning everything into the negative.  I’m upset with my boyfriend because he insists on bringing home a chocolate bar and why can’t my daughter eat the crust on her sandwich so I don’t have to eat it(after all you don’t want to waste food).  You know, I’m in a tailspin.
After about 1 ½ months to 2 months of this I think to myself, “Your nuts!  Why are you doing this to yourself?”  Then I remember this is my story.  I can change it any time I want to.  So I did.
I’m a mother to a 9 year old daughter, a business owner and partner to a wonderful man.  I exercise 3 sometimes 4 days a week.  I really enjoy my time at the gym.  My body is changing, I’m stronger, run longer and my energy has improved tremendously.  I walk with confidence, enjoy a dessert every couple of days and I’m nice to the people around me.  I don’t fit back into all the clothes I own, but, who cares, I’m happy, healthy and I look good in the clothes that do fit.
